EFT-Emotional Freedom Technique is a way to release negative emotions as it relates to eating. Based on Chinese medicine and the meridian system, it is one way to get rid of emotions that are ruling your eating.

Common emotions ruling eating:

  • Anxiety (the big one!)
  • Anger
  • Boredom
  • Deprivation
  • Discouragement
  • Lonely
  • Sadness
  • Grief

Some people have learned to deal with painful emotions by eating, because food is handy and soothing and numbs the emotion. It is important to become aware of this and that it had become a habit for us.

My Recommendation: If you recognize that an emotion is driving you to eat when you are not hungry, but because you are anxious or sad-Tap on that emotion every day. So it when you are not in the "pull" of that particular emotion so when it does happen you are better able to deal with it.

Example of general tapping on emotions driving eating: 7-8 taps per statement

Side of hand (Karate Chop Point): Even though in the past, emotions have driven my eating, I know this time can be different. Repeat 3 times.  

NEGATIVE SEQUENCE (Needed to bring up the emotion and the imbalance)

Eyebrow: I let emotions drive my eating
Side of Eye: I let emotions run my eating
Under Eye: I let emotions rule my eating
Under Nose: I let emotions control my eating
On Chin: I let emotions drive my eating
On Collarbone: I let my feelings rule my eating
Under Arm: My eating was totally out of control
Top of Head: I let emotions drive my eating

DEEP BREATH TWICE-How do you feel?

POSITIVE SEQUENCE (Needed to create the balance and get rid of the emotion)

Eyebrow: I know this time can be different
Side of Eye: I know I can control my eating
Under Eye: I deeply and completely love and accept myself
Under Nose: I no longer need to let emotions rule my eating
On Chin: I know this time can be different
On Collarbone: I know I can control my eating
Under Arm: I deeply and completely love and accept myself
Top of Head: I no longer need to let emotions drive my eating
